REGISTER NOWA Note From Our Founder
The topic of grief is always sensitive because you need to have the right balance of empathy and advice when talking with new grief navigators. I am never perfect when talking with folks, but I try to intentionally strike the right balance. One piece of advice I like to give new grief navigators is a simple mantra and that is "act instead of reacting". You will be incredibly sad and it will be tough to even get up, but even if it is small, plan your actions. That may mean planning to cry, planning to watch Netflix, planning to sleep, planning to workout, and planning to think deeply about your loss. It is easier said than done, but the concept is sound and you can start with at least one hour a day to plan and act and let it build. Grief sucks - we need tools, resources, guidelines, suggestions, etc. more when things are tragic than when things are easy and that is why when talking with recent grief navigators, I always suggest the concept of act not react.
